We believe that it’s important to promote the benefits of cycling and wish to play a part in developing cycling networks and safety locally and nationally.
We are also aware that for most people in the UK, cycling is a healthy, fun activity and we have a choice about getting on our bikes. However, in some parts of the world cycling is not a choice but a necessity for getting about... whether that be to access healthcare, gain an education or to earn enough money to live.
For these reasons, we donate £1 for every bike we hire or repair to one of two charities.
Read a little bit about them below or check out their websites to find out even more.
In the UK and here on the East Coast of Yorkshire, Sustrans works with communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people can choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys and enjoy better, safer spaces where they live. From getting individuals and communities active to working with partners to design and build routes for people to enjoy safer walking and cycling, Sustrans makes a positive difference to people’s lives across the whole of the UK.
In Africa, World Bicycle Relief provides “Buffalo”bikes to children to enable them to attend school, which also enables their families to access healthcare. It provides bicycles to volunteer healthcare workers caring for people living with HIV/AIDS and supporting children orphaned by the disease. An education programme addresses malnutrition among children and pregnant women. The charity supports a social enterprise, selling Buffalo bikes and parts and training mechanics, enabling them to reach more people with affordable, reliable transportation.
