Active Filey Cycling (formerly Filey Cycle Group) is a group, which doesn't take cycling too seriously with rides that are as much about coffee and cake stops as cycling. You do not need all the latest gear to ride with the group - any working bike will do, though you are required to wear a helmet and have a day-time running light on the rear. The group simply wants people who fancy a social bike ride to join them and is always happy to welcome visitors who are on holiday in the area. The routes and pace are usually decided on the morning, based on who turns up.
The intermediate group rides from Filey Bus station at 9.30am on Friday mornings. The group aims to cover 30 - 45 miles at a moderate pace (usually an average of 12-15 mph) and may take in some steep hills. The ride will end no later than 2.00pm.
The beginners/improvers group meets at 10.30am on Saturday mornings at The Band Stand Crescent Gardens between April and October). This group is ideal for adults, who are nervous about cycling. It will appeal to anyone who hasn't been on a bike for a while; those who aren't as fit as they would like; or those who are nervous about riding on roads. The rides will be slow paced, flat, and traffic-free (or minor roads).
The group doesn't have a website but you can follow them on Facebook - Active Filey. There's usually at least 1 of the BikeAbout team on all the rides so feel free to get in touch with us if you are not on Facebook and have any queries.
All rides are subject to the weather conditions and may be cancelled on the morning.
