Recommended routes

Filey and its surrounding area has a vast selection of fantastic cycle routes for all abilities.  You can explore neighbouring towns and villages along the coast, or head inland to the treasure on our doorstep - The Yorkshire Wolds.  The terrain is generally best suited to hybrd or road bikes, as most routes take you on shared cycle paths and minor, country roads.

We have created a number of routes to suit a range of abilities and confidence levels, all of them avoiding busy roads where possible and all featuring points of interest and refreshment stops.  Each suggested route has a short description of the ride, its distance and level. The maps and levels are designed specifically with our hire customers in mind, many of whom do not cycle regularly.  If you're a keen cyclist, who rides frequently or you cycle in a hilly/mountainous part of the country, don't pay too much attention to the levels as you are unlikely to find any of the routes "hard" and may wish to look at linking several of the routes together to create a more challenging ride to suit your ability.

We are in the process of adding routes to this page, so it's worth keeping an eye out for new additions.  We're also pleased to have now created easy to follow maps, which are free for you to download and are compatible with most devices.  Simply click on the link under the general description of each route.  This can then be downloaded, using the QR code or the PDF.  If you download the maps onto your mobile device, you should find navigation a doddle, but be aware that some of the routes take you into areas with poor or no signal for short periods.

You can find excellent off-road cycling in the North Yorkshire Moors or on the Cinder Track between Scarborough and Whitby.  You can cycle to these areas but, for those wishing to save their energy for the tracks, we'd advise the short drive or train journey from Filey.
